EPE Regatta - Notes for Skippers - Posted: August 22, 2004 - 10:15 PM Quote and reply
The Event Organisers
- Boats, Crew Lists, Jackets - Ian Harty
- Treasurer, Entertaiment & Saturday Breakfast/Dinner - John Lang
- Race design, skippers briefing, web details/communications - David Morrish

Skipper's Responsibilities
1. Safety of crew and boat

2. Ensuring transport so that their crew get to and from Largs.

3. Ensuring the provisioning of their boat to cover Saturdays race (Lunch & snacks) and Sunday Breakfast and Lunch). Remember to bring plenty of water. Soups and warm drinks are a good idea during the day in case of a cold weekend. Please check any special dietary requirements.

4. No dinner/entertainment is provided on Friday night, so each crew needs to arrange their own. Book ahead if you want to use the Marina restaurant, Nardini's.(01475 6866840)

5. Please note: A new requirement from Sunsail
Skippers and Mates will need to send completed booking forms and photocopies of their sailing certificates/experience* details to Sunsail at Largs 2 day before the event ie: in the post by say Monday 24th August. There is a dowloadable Sunsail booking form on the 'Advice' Page of the Main Menu. It may take a minute or two to download. Alternatively Ian Harty has a hard copy. It will need to be sent to:

Sunsail UK
The Port House
Port Solent
Portsmouth
PO6 4TH

6.Some boats will be available from 1500 if any crews wish to get an early start but not all. If you plan to go down early contact Sunsail first. On arrival check-in with the Sunsail office and they will organise handover. As skipper you will be asked for credit card from which they will take details for a ?1000 deposit. For this event no collison damage waiver is possible. As you would expect, you as skipper, are liable for any payment up to ?1000 excess and any arrangements you come to with your crew for covering such costs are your own.

7. Costs. Skippers are responsible for collecting cheques from each member of their crew. Cheques should be made payable to the 'Pecten Club' and handed to John Lang at Largs on the Friday night. Final event costs are £115 for Pecten Club Members and £125 for everyone else. This includes breakfast in Nardini's at the Marina on Saturday, dinner and entertainment in Tarbert on Saturday evening and a free jacket.

At Tarbert the harbour master has been advised to expect 12 Sunsail boats from ca 1700 on Saturaday and will set aside pontoon space for us.
The costguard will be informed of our activities on the Saturday, our approximate departure from Largs, our route and our approximate arrival at Tarbert.

The Skippers briefing will be at 0830 on Saturday morning in Nardini's restaurant at Largs. This will cover race details and safety. All Skippers must attend.

Usefull Links
From the main site menu click 'Useful Links' where you will find links to cover weather, tide, marina and Sunsail for boat details.

*If you have no official certification then your sailing CV is required. Keep it short to relevant previous experience as skipper or mate and miles sailed/general locations.

Finally, also on the 'Advice' page from the Main Menu there are dowloadable files for the Crew Lists and Safety notes.

If you have any comments or questions please contact the organisers.

Regards,

Organisers.
