2004 EPE Regatta - 27th-29th August (Used to be called The Expro Challenge)
The EPE Regatta is a very popular weekend sailing event organised by the Shell Pecten Sailing Club. The event is for sailors and non-sailors alike and for Shell Pecten members and friends. In fact, it is specifically designed to introduce people to sailing yachts by having a minimum of 2 complete novice sailors on each boat.
As always the event will start at Largs, Scotland but this year the race destination is to Tarbert, a past favourite destination and a tried and tested venue for the Saturday night.
So what's it all about?
The Pecten Sailing Club (you don't have to be a member, but if you work for Shell, purchasing membership may save you a pound or two) have chartered 12 identical 36ft 8 berth yachts out of the Largs Yacht Haven (on the Scottish West Coast just south of Glasgow). The EPE Regatta has had a similar format each year and this year is no exception. It goes like this:
Friday
If you start form say Aberdeen, leave the office at ca 1200 on the Friday to arrive at Largs ca 1700. Get kit onto the boat and get briefed. Supper and drinks at the Marina Restaurant or elsewhere in Largs. Night on boat.
Saturday
Get up & have breakfast at the Marina Restaurant. Get boat and crew ready for day of friendly racing and depart the marina.
Participate in race or series of races with other 11 boats (very friendly). Lunch on board. Complete race(s) near agreed venue for Saturday, Tarbert this year. Tie up boats ca 1700. Evening meal, prize giving and entertainment all arranged at venue. Night on boat.
Sunday
Get up and have breakfast on board (or sail somewhere nice first). Each boat free to sail back to Largs via whatever route they fancy. Lunch on board. Return to Marina by ca 1530 Clean up boat and pack up Leave Largs ca 1630 to return to Aberdeen. Further event details can be found within the forum.
How to join the EPE Regatta:
If you have not registered with YotLinx, go to 'Register' form the Main Menu.
then:
1. From the Events Menu, click on 'All Events'
2. From Event Listings, click 'EPE Regatta'
3. At the bottom of the Event Details Page, click to register.
4. Indicate in which capacity you are registering an interest and hit the 'Register' button
5. Log out or explore the site.
The organisers will then allocate you to a boat or if you have already agreed to join a team/boat with one of the skippers, register as above for communication purposes. The appropriate skipper will already have informed the organisers who will have allocated you appropriately on the crew lists. If in doubt Email Ian Harty and copy david@yotlinx.net
